Viburnum sargentii Onondaga

Species is native to northeast Asia but this selection was made by US National Arboretum and introduced in 1966.

Leaves open dark maroon and retain some colour for remainder of season on a rounded shrub expected to mature at 1.8m.

Onondaga flowers in mid-Spring with heads around 100 mm across; sterile florets are 20 mm wide of creamy white with a tinge of pink developing from reddish buds.

Like most of the viburnums we are familiar with, this is a carefree shrub requiring minimal maintainence.
