Syringa (Villosae group) James Macfarlane

Syn. S. x josiflexa 'James Macfarlane', S. x prestoniae 'James Macfarlane' and several variants of spelling.

Introduced by Yeager in 1959, with one parent being S. x josiflexa 'Royalty'.

This is a late flowering cultivar sporting large trusses of pink single flowers with minimal fragrance; plant has shown no susceptibility to blight. Cultivar was given a rating of 'excellent' in Fiala's book.

Growth is upright and expected to mature at 3 x 2 m; has shown no tendency to sucker.
