Syringa vulgaris Hugo Koster

Bred by Hugo Koster (or possibly van Toll) in Holland, it was introduced in 1914.

This cultivar sports an abundance of lilac flowers somewhat earlier than the norm for S. vulgaris. Fragrance is average for vulgaris.

S. vulgaris selections typically grow into large shrubs 3m high with a spread of 2m and usually exhibit a propensity to sucker.
