Syn. Syringa tigerstedtii
This was considered to be a distinct species until fairly recently. It is now included as a variety of S. sweginzowii.
Flowers are single white appearing in large open panicles late in season. Fragrance is strongly spicy.
'tigerstedtii' is a non-suckering shrub growing to 3 x 2.5 m upon maturity; it is not unusual to see shoots making 1.5 m of growth on vigorous young plants.
